The unfortunately positioned Josephine Baker, who has left the all black band’s name as appropriately inappropriate NGRS :/

While I initially found this a little amusing, it suddenly occurred to me that this might have have been specifically chosen for release to the press by someone looking to push their own racist agenda.

Sadly, it’s quite likely. Black soldiers were segregated from from their white comrades during WWII, and it remained that way until 1948 when President Truman desegregated the US Armed Forces.
