This a song *every* Australian knows but, I’d never paid attention to the lyrics until I heard Kate’s haunting cover. Featuring both an electric guitar solo that leads immediately into an operatic vocal solo by the classically trained former opera singer that really highlights her incredible voice, it’s one of my favorite songs of all time, of all time. I can’t get enough if this track and it’s music video. It’s Mario meets Organized Crime. Filled to bursting with Mario references and stitched together into clever rhymes. Brilliant! I want a whole album by these guys!

#NowPlaying 30 Seconds To Mars’ Hurricane and reading about ‘lil Wayne’s life post jail. Wayne was someone I seriously misjudged. I remember being at the Big Day Out waiting to see Lupe Fiasco (Who, with his alt rock and skater roots is about as un- hip-hop as a rapper gets.) perform and ‘A Milli’ coming on over the speakers, I turned to my friend saying “I fucking hate this shit”. A few months later, I was hooked. He’s intelligent, educated and well read. His lyrical prowess is unrivaled and he outshines (my favorite lyricist) Eminem every time he works with him. His musical influences are varied and it reflects in his work as he pushes beyond pushes the boundaries of ‘Hip-Hop’. In my opinion he’s one of the few stand out artists in the genre worth paying attention to. (Taken with instagram)
